This compact turbidity meter, the WZB-170, is cheap and works with ISO 7027 and HJ 1075. The light source is an 850nm LED, it counts scattered light, and the color is set by itself. The tool has two ranges from 0 to 200NTU, automatic swapping, zero adjustment, and the ability to run on DC power or USB power. You can prove who you are outside and on your phone thanks to the IP65 waterproof and dustproof design. It’s simple to use and keep up, so it’s great for checking the turbidity often.

Core Highlights
- Lightweight (0.8 kg), small, and easy to carry; IP65 waterproof and dustproof; good for outdoor and industrial use;
- Minimalist operation: automatic range changeover and zero adjustment, easy 9-key physical operation, clock setting, and simple calibration time recording;
- Dual power guarantee: AA battery and USB dual power supply with an undervoltage prompt to keep the power on during on-site testing and meet the needs for continuous operation;
- It has an 850nm light source and automatically adjusts the color of the sample so that the color doesn’t affect the measurement results and the data stays stable.
- Very cost-effective: it can detect 0–200 NTU and comes with a lot of accessories. It doesn’t need much maintenance for simple turbidity screening.
Featured Applications
- Monitoring the environment: checking the turbidity of surface water and groundwater in the wild, and basic water quality screening;
- Water industry: taking samples of the quality of water from waterworks, township water supply stations, and mobile testing of water stations that are far away;
- Industrial site: Quickly finding turbidity in normal industrial water and circulating water, as well as basic monitoring of production processes;
- Livelihood scenario: Checking the turbidity of swimming pool water and landscaping water every day to make sure the water is safe to drink.

Daily maintenance and precautions
Key points for operation and use
- Preparing samples Choose a haze-free turbidity bottle, rinse it with zero-turbidity water, then rinse the sample 2-3 times. Fill the bottle to the “+” mark and wipe out bubbles and fingerprints on the bottle wall;
- To calibrate, press “Zero / 0” to use automatic zero adjustment, then “Calibration / 7” to start the calibration procedure. Put standard samples in order of concentration, pick the standard value, and then click “OK.” Once it’s steady, wait one minute to calibrate;
- Put the sample bottle on the instrument’s line to measure and save data. When the reading stabilizes, press “Store /.” to save time, operator, etc. Optimize fluctuating data with “Average”.
- Power switch: When used outdoors, install 4 AA batteries, and indoors, connect a computer or power adapter through a USB cable for power supply.
Key points for preparing standard samples
- Zero turbidity water: Filter distilled water through a microporous membrane with a pore size of ≤ 0.2 µ m at least twice to obtain zero turbidity water;
- Standard solution: Use Formazine standard substance (such as GBW12001 400NTU), or prepare 400NTU mother liquor according to ISO 7027 method and dilute it to 2NTU/20NTU/200NTU standard sample;
- Storage requirements: The mother liquor should be refrigerated at 4-8 ℃ and stored away from light. Diluted standard samples should be prepared as needed and should not be stored for a long time.
